Office Containers

Office Container Rental: Short-Term vs Long-Term Cost

The rate on an office container doesn’t change with how long you keep it. What changes is your real cost per cycle, because delivery and pickup are one-time charges spread across however many cycles the unit sits on your site. A two-cycle rental and a twelve-cycle rental at the same rate can land in very different places on your job cost report. For every city we deliver to, see Container Rentals Indiana.

What an Office Container Costs to Rent

Office containers are billed per 28-day cycle:

  • 20 ft office: $725
  • 40 ft office: $850
  • 40 ft office/storage combo: $775

That rate is locked for the life of the rental, so a unit that lands in March at $850 is still $850 fourteen cycles later. Every office we rent is a new one-trip unit, averaging under a year old, climate controlled with heat and A/C, with a built-in desk so your PM can work the day it arrives. We provide the container and you arrange power, either land power or a generator; our office container power requirements page walks through it. For more on pricing, see our office container rental price guide.

How much does it typically cost to rent an office container in Indiana, and are there any hidden fees I should be aware of?

Plan on the rates above plus a one-time delivery charge and a one-time pickup charge, each priced per trip by distance. There are no property fees, no excise taxes, and no fuel surcharges. Sales tax applies, as it does anywhere. Every rental also needs insurance coverage, satisfied with either a certificate of insurance or the Loss Damage Waiver, which is an optional service we offer, not a fee.

Why Rental Length Changes Your Real Cost

Delivery and pickup are each one-time, per-trip charges based on distance, and both appear on your first invoice only. Your pickup price is locked at the time you order, so you can carry a firm number into your budget on day one.

On a two-cycle rental, those two trips can rival the rent itself. Stretch the same container across a year and they nearly disappear into the rate. Here’s the math on a 40 ft office at $850 per 28-day cycle, showing effective cost per cycle once delivery and pickup are included:

Delivery area Per-trip estimate 2 cycles 6 cycles 12 cycles
Indianapolis area (Greenwood, Noblesville, Plainfield, Lebanon) ~$325 $1,175 $958 $904
Lafayette ~$425 $1,275 $992 $921
Fort Wayne ~$675 $1,525 $1,075 $963

These are estimates only. Your actual delivery and pickup price is calculated for your exact site and shown on your quote before you accept, and it can vary quite a bit based on current fuel prices, site access, and scheduling.

How much does it typically cost to rent an office container in Fort Wayne for a short-term versus long-term lease?

Using the Fort Wayne row above, a 40 ft office with roughly $675 per trip means about $1,350 in delivery and pickup. Keep it two cycles and your effective cost is around $1,525 per cycle, nearly double the base rate. Keep it twelve cycles and it drops to about $963 per cycle, only $113 above the rate itself. Short jobs far from our yard carry the heaviest transport share, so it pays to know your real duration before comparing quotes.

Would it be cheaper to rent a container long-term versus paying for multiple deliveries?

Yes, if the need is continuous. Every time a container leaves and a new one comes back, you pay for another pickup and another delivery. Two short rentals with a gap between them cost four trips instead of two. When the work is phased but ongoing, leaving one unit on site through the slow stretch usually wins.

What’s the typical cost difference between renting a storage container for a short-term move versus keeping one on-site long-term for a construction project?

Storage rentals run $185 per 28-day cycle for a 40 ft and $165 for a 20 ft, and the same math applies. Because the storage rate is low relative to the trips, the swing is even sharper: on a two-cycle staging job, delivery and pickup can outweigh the rent, while on a year-long project the trips fade into the background.

No Minimum Term, and No Advertised Long-Term Discounts

Billing runs in 28-day cycles, which works out to 13 periods a year, so some months will carry two invoices. That’s normal. You pay for the cycles you use, there’s no minimum commitment, and your rate can’t be raised mid-rental. If someone quotes a lower all-in number on the exact same product, our low price guarantee covers it.

Are there any long-term rental discounts available if I need an office container for several months or a year?

There’s no advertised long-term discount. What protects you on a long rental is that the rate never changes, you’re never locked into a term, and the price match holds on the same product.

How long can I keep a storage container rented, and is there flexibility if my project takes longer than expected?

Keep it as long as the job needs it. If the schedule slips two cycles or five, you keep paying the same locked rate per cycle and call when you’re ready for pickup. No renewal paperwork and no re-quote.

How to Estimate How Long You’ll Need It

Because there’s no penalty for ending early, estimate on the long side:

  • Count the phases the office actually supports, from mobilization through substantial completion.
  • Add weather days. An Indiana winter or a wet spring can push a schedule a full cycle or more.
  • Add punch list and closeout time, when a lot of teams realize they still need a desk and a warm room on site.
  • Round up to the next full cycle.

Once you have a duration, we quote the same day, you accept the quote, and we schedule delivery as soon as possible on our own trucks. See the full lineup on our office containers page.
